The sun was shining for our outdoor JCSP Graduation today. This graduation is to celebrate all the student’s achievements over the past three years. Needless to say, the list of achievements was long! Congratulations to all involved in the celebrations today. We even had access online for students who had to remain at home.
Have you ever seen a perfect Hexagon Flower? HFSD was blooming with Hexagon Flowers this morning for #CreativeWeek in Creative Maths Workshop. Ms.Owens and Ms Roddy coordinated an online workshop on how to draw a perfect Hexagon with a compass. Our students colour them in, helping them to relax and to practice some mindfulness colouring and calmness. #Wellbeing#creativeweek
A very special day today – despite the current restriction due to the pandemic, we revised our school leavers graduation for the graduates of 2020 and 2021. The graduation went ahead for the students only and it was accessed online by parents, students, and staff virtually on zoom. It was a very special celebration of two cohorts of school leavers 2020 and 2021 and we had a special guest Senator Marie Sherlock who signed in ISL the opening of her guest speech – “Congratulations on your Graduation”.
We showcase the students signing in ISL with the Deaf Choir – we had three songs; Boys and Girls performed in “All in this together” by High School Musical. Girls’ performed the song “Good Old Days” by Macklemore and Kesha and the boys performed for the song is “These Days” by Avicii. It was a wonderful performance. (You can see the performance below)
A representative from each class 6A, 6B, 6C, and 6D gave a speech on what Holy Family School for the Deaf means to them. I like to share an extract of the speech = “So, to finish, I will use a quote that a teacher in our school likes to share with us and say to the class of 2021 and 2020 that, “The world is our oyster, we have the opportunity to do and be anything we want. Let’s do it all!”
Our Teachers, SNAs and Staff have voted for the following students to be the ‘Student of the Year’ Student of the Year 2020 = Evan Maguire
Student of the Year 2021 = Siocha Quinn.
After the presentation and celebration, the students got to watch a video of messages and congratulations by parents and friends. They even got a message all the way from Lebanon! They then watch a video of the parents signing the song ‘Slow Down’ It was very emotional and there was not a dry eye in the house!
We would like to thank all of our Teachers, SNAs, and staff for everything and for helping to make today extra special!
Every Family has a story to tell….. This will be one story that will be told for generations!
We wish all our school leavers every happiness and success for the future – Remember – ‘The World is your Oyster!’

The toughest challenge of today was stopping the stopwatch at exactly 10:00 seconds! Accuracy, rhythm, timing were the key skills at play in this game. Only one person today was able to get very close to 10:00 seconds! That was Ms.O Regan!!!! #TheCube#CreativeWeekpic.twitter.com/8eIfIrFKEI

Our 5th years as part of their Hotel, Catering and Tourism subject, were out today at Dublin zoo to finish their @PDST_LCA key assignments. We had a great day socially distanced. Our first trip out and the sun came out for us all day!
Well done to our Transition Years students who sewed and created Star Wars mask for their upcoming Graduation on Friday. Our Transition Years are doing their bit to make sure they are all safe at their graduation.
Third Years made these beautiful embroideries and embellished cushions as part of their CBA in Home Economics with Ms.Ohle. They also had to create a Mood Board as part of their assessment. Arent the cushions SEW lovely! <3
Fantastic Q&A session with the lovely Joanne Chester following a viewing of her interesting 2019 Dun Laoghaire TED-talk, ‘Not just Deaf’. Big thanks to Joanne for joining HFSD via Zoom today and Ms Linda Rankin for moderating the Q&A session. Remember: INCLUSION IS EVERYONE’S RESPONSIBILITY #creativeschoolsweek
