A special welcome to new Choir Conductor Ciara Hamilton. Ciara will be taking over the Holy Family School Deaf Choir from Shirley Higgins.
Shirley is the original founder of the Holy Family Deaf Choir. We would like to thank Shirley and Lorraine for all the amazing work that they has done with the School Choir over the years, such as the Emmanuel, Dublin Castle, Dublin Culture Connects, Late Late Toy Show, The Saturday Night Live Show, 4 Schools and 1 Language, The Beethoven Fest in Bonn Germany, The Huawei Conference in Brussels and so much more. Ciara is one of the first members of the Holy Family Deaf Choir. She will have big shoes to fill in! but with Shirley’s support and guidance Ciara will do a fantastic job. As these photos/videos show, she is already off to a promising start. Watch this space…..

Massive Congratulations to 4A Class and to their teacher Ms. Aideen Lynch who has been shortlisted in the ReelLIFE Science 2019 video competition. Out of 191 entrants they were one of only three schools shortlisted in the post primary section. 4A students created an animated video for the category “Science & Me”. The title of their animated film is “How Science helps us hear?” The students explained how we hear and how hearing aids/cochlear implants work. The final will be held in NUI Galway on Sunday 24th November. We would like to wish the the very best of luck!

Congratulations to all our students who have received an award for their enthusiastic participation in Maths Week. The awards were giving out to the students who tried their best. Their perseverance and persistent paid off as they solved some of the complex puzzles. It was amazing to see students using Maths to create a Celtic knot, to solve some puzzling cryptic puzzles, to arrive at a particular destination without turning left (That was a tricky one!), and to have fun in doing not one but two Maths Trails! While every student particpated and had fun on Maths Day, our teachers felt that these 8 students deserved an award for their achievements on Maths Day. Well done to all.

Best of luck to Des who after 17 years working in our school will be starting a new chapter in his life, that is his retirement. We want to say thank you to Des for all the help he has given us over the years and for driving us on all of our educational trips. 4C class Newsletter Committee asked Des a question for their Newsletter article, they asked ‘Did you enjoy working in our school?’ Des replied “yes I love my job here. I have great time for all the teachers, staff, SNAs and the children. I will miss you all very much.”
We will also miss Des and his friendly disposition in our school very much.
Best of luck Des on your retirement and new endeavours.

We would like to thank Sinead Winters (Callum’s Mum 2A) who is a great advocate of environmental conservation and reducing consumer waste. Sinead visited our school today and gave a talk to all the students and Staff on how we can reduce plastic use, be more green and do efficient recycling. She shared many great ideas and tips on how we can be more eco friendly. After the talk there is a consensus that we all need to do something drastic, that is to cut the plastic!
Our art teacher John Canning showed Sinead our students ‘Barcelona Artwork’ which was made from recycled materials. Sinead commented that it is beautiful. Thank you to Ms. Linda Rankin and Green School Committee for organising this very important topical speech for our school. We are on our way to earning the Green Flag for our school.
