JCSP Celebrations

Category : Post Primary

The sun was shining as we finally got to celebrate our student’s JCSP achievements. All students have completed this program in school, and by distance learning at home during school closure due to Covid. Their resilience and ability to adapt and learn at this time is worth commendation.

Every year we normally have a big celebration and we invite parents, house parents family, and friends. However, this year we had to keep the celebration small due to the current pandemic situation.
We were delighted to use our outdoor classroom for this presentation. The JCSP Graduation was a lovely celebration where we got to acknowledge and celebrate all of the amazing achievements the students have achieved for the Junior Cert School Programme. The long list of achievements includes; Performing with Holy Family Deaf Choir, a committee member of Green School, Newsletter initiatives, Woodwork initiative where our students created a beautiful, bespoke victorian wooden rocking horse, a Picnic Table for the schoolyard, a Film Making initiative, Fundraising for charities, organising events such as Maths day, Pi day etc.. Active members of the school sports team and the Challenge Cup.

Each student was given a student profile, a letter of reference with positive comments from all their teachers, certificates for their achievements, a sign language ornament with the ISL alphabet G to represent ‘graduation’ and ‘greatness’. We are very proud of them and we wish them every success in the future. Well done students and to all our hard-working teachers and to JCSP Co-ordinator Maggie Owens. Thank you Caitlin for taking all the photos and to JOhn for the JCSP Poster.

Visual Arts (Drama) Initiative

Category : Post Primary

Well done to our First Years & Second Years who have started the Multi Media and Drama (Visual Arts) JCSP Cross-curricular Statement with Shane O Reilly and Roy Maquire. We invited Shane O Reilly, a well-known actor, and CODA which means a child of a deaf adult. The students loved working with Shane today as he was able to communicate in ISL with them. They explored drama and expression by using gestures, facial expressions, and body language. They acted out famous scenes and did a lot of activities in improvisation, and contemporary drama. It was fantastic to see students really expressing themselves more and gaining more confidence.  We were also delighted to have Roy Maguire involved in today’s drama workshop as he filmed and recorded the students’ experience in acting and interviewing. Well Done to all the students and to their teachers Mr. Sean Herlihy and Ms. Lorraine Creed. A Fantastic JCSP Initiative!

Delightful Morning Break by LCA (year 1) in aid of Irish Cancer Society

Category : Post Primary

Well done to our fifth years students who organised a coffee morning in aid of Irish Cancer Society. They baked and delivered freshly baked muffins (Individually wrapped) and coffee/tea to the teachers and SNAs classrooms for the morning Break. Students created a Google Form and emailed them to the teachers where they could select from a list of different flavours; Blueberry, Lemon Drizzle, Double Chocolate and Chocolate Chip Yum Yum!! Well Done to all the students in LCA & 5A and to teachers Ms. Shirley Higgins, Ms. Lauren Rowen, Ms.Nicola Roddy and SNA Ciara Hamilton.
This was a challenging task as they had to adhere to social distancing and to ensure all criteria was met to make sure that coffee/tea and muffin was delivered safety.
