Happy World Kindess Day

Category : Primary

Happy World Kindness Day to all the staff in Primary School from 5th/6th Class. What a lovely surprise coming into work to see this. It’s warming to know the students care for staff as much as staff care for the students during these difficult days.

Thank You 5th/6th Class from all the staff at Primary.

It is important to be kind to yourself as well! What random act of kindness are you going to do today?

Inspiration is everywhere, even in the lavatory!

Category : Post Primary

Transition years students are spreading inspiration to the whole school in the lavatory! Using their new Chromebooks they researched on the internet for inspirational quotes. They picked 3 favourite quotes and shared them with the rest of the class. After discussing the quotes, each student picked their favourite quote of the three, that they feel will inspire others. They then used Google Docs to design a poster for their selected quote.
They learnt how to draw a border by inserting a single cell (table) and editing it. They complemented their quote with an image and then framed their poster. These frames will be mounted onto the back of the toilet door so that when students go to the toilet they can read the quotes and be inspired by the affirmation. This cross-curricular initiative promotes Information Technology (IT), English and Literacy and Creativity. It also part of our Well-Read Award initiative, which is to improve the reading culture in Holy Family School.

Pencil Sketching with JCSP

Category : Post Primary

Some of our second years enjoyed the Pencil Sketching pencil course with talented Deaf artist Johnny Corcoran. Johnny Corcoran has a passion for pencil sketching and he has showed our students some of his amazing artwork on the human eye, on animals such as elephants, and famous portraits, for example Morgan Freeman. Our students were in awe of the talented artist artwork. Johnny explained to the students that sometimes a finished pencil sketching can take up to a total of 30 hours!
Today he showed our students how to use a pencil to draw light and shade and how light can cast a shadow behind an object. Johnny also showed the different shades from lightness to darkness using different pencils such as 2H, 3H, 4H, 2B, 3B, 4B and a very dark pencil 8B! Thank you to initiative coordinator John Canning for implementing this initiative.
