JCSP Digital Library

All the students in Holy Family School logged onto their Digital Library account with SORA App. This is our third year introducing the WELL READ Initiative for our school. We aim to promote a more positive attitude to reading.
JCSP Digital Library has a significant collection of all genres of books, for all level and abilities and interests.
Dr. Seuss once said ‘The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you‘ll go!’

Junk Culture

TY is working hard on creating their outfit for Junk Kouture. Load of teamwork going. Trying new techniques of weaving, origami, working with metals to create the dress. We looked at Green Schools to see waste in our school and from that research, we decided to use the waste from the lunchroom – milk cartons, sandwich wrappers, plastic straws, plastic wrapping, soup cartons. It’s a steep learning curve but great fun. We will keep you up to date with our journey!

Space Exploration Creating our Future with  Deirdre Kelleghan

Space Exploration Creating our Future with Deirdre Kelleghan  For this event, Deirdre will mention “The Artemis Mission to the Moon, Mars and Beyond” launching in January 2022.

Our students learnt about how Space Exploration has contributed to food production systems on Earth that are sustainable even in the harshest climates. As we move towards the future, the work being done today on Earth and in Space will make exploring and living on the Moon and  Mars become a reality. By doing the drawing the students will get to know and understand hydroponics and the future of growing food on Earth and in space.

Materials for the workshop included pastel colours for the drawing are : White, Red, Green, Blue, Orange, Yellow, Pink, Black, cream and Blue. Black sugar paper is ideal, or white paper with crayons or coloured pencils.

Juggling Mathematics Workshop with Mr Maths Weeney

What a fantastic start to Maths Week. Our Transition Years students and 6th years did a Juggling Maths workshop with Mr Math Weeney. It was exciting, fun, interactive and engaging. Our students learnt some soft skills today on how to juggle and how to make a connection with Quadratic Equation. They learnt how to plot points of the juggling experience onto co -ordinate graph, identify the turning point and explore algebra. It was the most exciting mathematical lesson in Holy Family School. Not only did Mr Math Weeney enhance our students’ numerical skills he also injected some fun literacy activity into the workshop where students had to create an acrostic poem with the letters in JUGGLE. Special thanks to Eoin Gill from Maths Week Ireland for helping to make this workshop possible and inclusive by proving an ISL Interpreter.  Thank you Mr Math Weeney for such a fun mathematical afternoon! 

DEAR Drop Everything and Read 2021

Students and Staff enjoying the One Book One School initiative for DEAR. Our book is ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse’ by Charlie Mackesy. This book makes us feel all warm and fuzzy inside!

Teaching ISL to Students from Castleknock College

Well done to 3C Class and TY1 for teaching students from Castleknock College Irish Sign Language. Our good friend Fr Stephan Monaghan organised this trip bringing the students from Castleknock College so that they can learn about the Deaf Community and Deaf Culture. They also learn about some of the social injustices in modern society and how Deaf people try to overcome them. We were very proud of our students for welcoming the students and confidently teaching them ISL.
