JCSP Cultural Trip

Category : Post Primary

Today 4C experience a Cultural Trip of Dublin as part of their JCSP Newspaper Initiative. They got to visit the coolest Little Museum of Dublin where our tour guide ‘Fiona’ gave us an amazing interesting tour. She told us some interesting stories about the house in olden times in Dublin. We even got to see the Book of Kells which is temporarily on loan to the Little Museum of Dublin. We then visited the Yeats Collection exhibition in the National Library of Ireland.  We loved reading the old letters in Yeats collection and looking at the beautiful embroidery created by William B Yeats sister. We saw the famous inscription on WB Yeats Headstone “Cast a cold eye On life, on death. Horseman, pass by!”. We then had our celebration dinner to celebrate our achievements in publishing our school’s newsletter every month. We had a great day and we got a traditional selfie photo with Dublin’s famous  street statue ‘Molly Malone’.

Green School News

Category : Post Primary

3B Class (Noel, Kate & Emma) created a project where they investigated the Hearing Aids/Cochlear Implants battery waste in the Holy Family School for the Deaf. They wondered how the students dispose (throw away) their battery. They did a survey and learned some interesting facts!

  • 52% of our students use hearing aid battery. This type of battery is not rechargeable.
  • 39% of students have cochlear implant battery which can be recharged.
  • 50% of our students said they recycled their battery in the blue box (wee).
  • The other 50% of our students dump their battery elsewhere (bag, waste bin).
  • 94% of our students do not know what happens to the battery once it is thrown away.

3B Class invites you to think about ‘Where does it go and is it harmful to our environment?’. You can find out the answer on the Green School Noticeboard in school.

Check out the Green School Committee research and their new action plans on improving our schools recycling of battery waste on the Green School Noticeboard.

GREEN SCHOOL COMMITTEE Tip of the Month!

  • Please keep all your dead batteries (hearing aids betteries, from toys, remote controls etc…) and bring them to our school and dispose them in our new Weee recycle boxes. There will be a prize for a class who collected the most, watch this space….

This term the PE Department worked on the gymnastics module of the PE Curriculum. Students learned how to coordinate their movements doing safe forward and backward rolls, and improving their balancing and strength abilities. As part of the Gymnastic module students also did group-work performing different human pyramids with 2-5 students. Very good workout and super fun to be had by all!
