Holy Family primary students had a lot of fun this week learning about the meaning of friendship. We had lots of friendship building activities, beautiful artwork and learned a song about what it means to be a great friend. Well done to all children and staff for making Friendship Week great!
Congratulations to our second year students who entered into the Student Enterprise Programme competition with their mini-company. Their business idea was to design a playing deck of cards with ISL handshapes representing each letters and numbers. They borrowed the artwork from Brendan O’Rourke and produced the cards themselves. The aim of their business is to educate people ISL through a game, fun way to learn. Five students presented their company in the city hall today, in front of judges completing against other schools in the Dublin. They WON runner up of the intermediate category. Well to the students and to their teacher Ms. Linda Rankin. We are very proud. #studententerprise #creativelearning #activelearning #PromotingISL
5C did a litter project as part of their Living in the Community course. Their project focuses on the area around the Holy Family School for the Deaf and surrounding roads. They did a survey to find out how many bins are there in these areas. They found some interesting findings, they found bins were only available on the Navan Road only, near the bus stops and shops. There was one bin at the entrance to the park for cleaning up after your dog. 5C worked as a team on this project and they had different responsibilities, Siocha drew a map of the area. Bryan did a survey of bins in the classrooms. Diana did the laws on litter and Cheyenne did recycling clothes. Please check the Green School Noticeboard to read more about their project. Well Done 5C!
Happy Pancake Tuesday to all our students, teachers and Staff. Special thanks to JCSP initiative for allowing us to get pancakes. Thank you to mammy Phil for ordering the pancakes and to Shirley Wolverton for collecting them from Clarke’s Bakery. They were so delicious ❤️
It was an absolute honour to have Joe Duffy RTE Broadcaster and Author to come to our school to launch the new Reading Corner which was funded by JCSP. Joe was greeted with a guard of honour as he arrived to the Holy Family School for the Deaf. Students, Principal Eimear O Rourke and staff greeted him and talked to him about the wonderful things in our school, for example the choir, our ISL noticeboard, the JCSP Comic Strip Competition etc. Joe was then invited into the Reading room where some students shared their favourite book with him. Joe was then invited to cut a red ribbon and to officially launch our new colourful, reading room which has a good collection of current magazines, newspapers, books and graphic novels. Joe commented how lovely and colourful the room is. He shared with the students and staff that in times of trouble books are more valuable than money. You are richer with a book, Everyone should read. He also said if he could write a book so can any of us, and he encourage us to keep a journal. Hopefully one day we get to see a pupil from Holy Family School for the Deaf write their own book! Peter Grogan a children’s author also visited our school to donate some of his books ‘Seamróg’ to our reading room. Joe Duffy also donated all of his books to our reading room – his autobiography ‘Just Joe’, ‘The Children of the Rising’ and ‘The Children of the Troubles’. Thank you Joe for helping us raise awareness about the importance of creating a positive reading culture in our school community. We are in the process of applying for the WELL READ award for our school. We presented Joe a picture frame with his name fingerspelled and the description “I SIGNED & TALKED TO JOE” He loved it! ❤️ #Justjoe #Promotingapositivereadingculture #readforpleasure #Jcsp
Holy Family School’s Basketball team played against St.Declan’s on Thursday the 30th of January. PE teacher Roman tells us that “This was a very tough game which got heated at times, but every one managed themselves well. St. Declan’s is very strong team. They have few pro players in their team. Unfortunately, one injury set us back a player. We lost the game, but we are getting ready for revenge in March!”
